One silver lining of the mass social distancing experiment occurring in the US and Europe right now — which is an attempt to prevent the large-scale deaths seen in Wuhan, China and later in Italy, when COVID-19 spread to older populations there — is that an UNPRECEDENTED number of people are on the Internet right now, seeking out unbiased information, news, and entertainment to such an extent that the Internet’s infrastructure may be near a breaking point.

YouTube and Netflix are reportedly streaming much of their content in standard definition right now, as opposed to high definition, in order to lessen the load on key Internet infrastructure.
