CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 UPDATES 3/25/2020: Senate, White House Agree To $2 Trillion Stimulus
At first, policymakers sounded hopeful that COVID-19 could be contained in the United States, and that new infection numbers could be “stabilized” thanks to greater awareness than in Italy and South Korea, where COVID-19 — the novel coronavirus — has taken a severe toll.
Now, with the number of infections in the US still growing heading into April, both parties have expressed the need for emergency stimulus to get the economy — and the American people — back on schedule fast. Thankfully, after initial failures, the US Senate and White House have reached a tentative deal on a whopping $2 trillion stimulus package designed to lessen the blow of COVID-19, Yahoo! News reports.
American stock markets, as well as other asset classes, have been hard hit by COVID-19 fears, with trillions of dollars in value being wiped from the NYSE and Nasdaq since the first confirmed infections on US soil were reported.
COVID-19 is believed to be unusually contagious and hardy for a virus in its family, and can survive on some surfaces for up to 3-5 days health experts believe, making the case for proper hygiene and frequent sterilization of surfaces. The virus originated in Wuhan, China late last year, wreaking havoc on several of China’s most prosperous cities, and causing substantial harm to its economy.
