Coronavirus Infections Top 700,000 Globally: What Aren't They Telling Us?

President Trump reportedly narrowly decided not to quarantine the NYC metro area, yet that city and greater New York — along with California and Washington State — are expected to be heavily hit by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

According to health authorities, the number of infections worldwide has now surpassed 700,000. And, of course, the slowdown in economic activity and travel have cost stock markets in the West and in China — where the virus originated late last year, experts believe — many trillions of dollars in value.

Why was the world shut down for something explained to us as roughly equivalent to a flu bug or a severe case of the common cold? I see four possible explanations as a researcher. I’m not a medical professional nor do I have a background in virology… but I have a high traffic blog read by many, and plenty of good FULCRUM HQ espresso while social distancing from the rest of the planet, so here goes. And also — these are the four possibilities — I’m not suggesting all are equally as likely or valid. For airtight thinking, I want to cover all possible bases here.

COVID-19: is it worse than they’re telling us?

COVID-19: is it worse than they’re telling us?

1) It’s worse than they are telling us, either in contagiousness or expected mortality burden. During one of the coronavirus press conferences from the White House on TV, someone stated that COVID-19 is possibly “three times” as infectious as the Spanish flu of 1918, which caused 50 million or so deaths and infected about 27% of the entire planetary population at the time, experts believe. I have not heard that data point repeated since then, maybe it was only a guesstimate — but if true, it would explain the rationale for drastic action while trying to minimize the public hysteria. After all, the Spanish flu pandemic was caused by a flu, just a bad or rather severe strain. And if the COVID-19 coronavirus is 3x or so as infectious as the bug responsible for Spanish flu, then given today’s much larger population that could mean a very large number of deaths — even if most of the deaths would be those with pre-existing conditions or battling other illnesses.

I haven’t seen much convincing data online from authorities that COVID-19 is any more fatal than similar respiratory illnesses other viruses are responsible for, so being unusually contagious, rather than unusually deadly — could be the ultimate causality for such drastic actions, which are unprecedented in America’s history.

If it is very contagious, it can infect more people overall, and still cause many deaths especially to the elderly and those weaker from existing illnesses.

Senator Ted Cruz has stoked the flames of disbelief in the numbers emerging from China, stating they are “lying” about the infection numbers in mainland China.

2) It’s all theatre of some kind, in order to cover up other things, or to collapse the current system and necessitate the need for a new system. I have heard some in the conspiracy community, for instance, emphatic that this viral contagion is actually somehow cover so that elites — including Hillary Clinton — can be arrested. This theory doesn’t fly with me, for one thing, a pandemic makes it harder for authorities to arrest people — not easier. And they don’t need “cover” or “distractions” to file routine court paperwork, again, a pandemic reduces the availability of courts and law enforcement professionals… so it seems like wishful thinking to me, rather than a proper explanation. Now, collapsing the system — that’s another proposition altogether. It does seem, as we have reported previously, that the slowdown from COVID-19 has already caused record new unemployment filings in the USA… it has also wiped a large portion of American public companies’ valuations on the stock markets, and has in some cases collapsed credit markets, and has limited small businesses’ access to credit… this multi-tiered crunch begs for someone to rush in and save the day, but whom, and at what cost in exchange?

3) It’s retribution from God, or an accidentally released bioweapon. Wuhan, China — the metropolis where COVID-19 is believed to have originated in late 2019 — was home to one of the world’s largest “wet markets,” where exotic animals are sold and eaten by enthusiastic consumers, sometimes while the animals are still conscious and alive. Wuhan was also home reportedly to a level 4 research biolab, where highly infectious coronavirus strains may have been studied. Did Murphy’s law kick in here, rather than divine wrath? Was locating a level 4 biolab within yards of the world’s most depraved and unsanitary wet market an offense to simple probabilities, if not to God? The bioweapon claim, similar to the theory above, makes some sense — it explains why authorities rapidly rolled out coronavirus.gov, unprecedented travel bans, and closed down travel from China relatively early on.

Is COVID-19 hysteria, in part, an attempt to derail Trump’s re-election chances?

Is COVID-19 hysteria, in part, an attempt to derail Trump’s re-election chances?

4) It’s media and/or WHO-driven deception to wreck President Trump’s chances in an election year. This theory goes something like this: we know the people at the World Health Organization (WHO), and at the UN, and at the virulently anti-MAGA corporate media do not like Trump, and they do not like his supporters’ populist vision. Is it possible these people have overblown what is essentially a bad flu season, to burden the healthcare system, wreck the economy, or overload Trump at a time when he needs to be focused also on campaigning? According to CDC estimates, the “regular” influenza bug kills about 12,000 to 70,000 people annually, and the number of fatalities from COVID-19 is still small in comparison, as of today.

What do you think? Does one of these four possibilities explain the COVID-19 unprecedented response from authorities, or do you see a possibility other than these? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
