Twitter Launches Crypto NFT Profiles Feature, Elon Musk Calls It "Annoying"

In a further sign that cryptocurrency and the blockchain are here to stay, Twitter has launched a NFT (non-fungible token) feature which allows crypto users to verify and display a NFT — a token that’s typically a piece of artwork or digital image of some kind — as their profile picture.

Not everyone is a fan of Twitter’s move into NFT crypto waters, however.

One site called it little more than an “annoying show-off of crypto wealth,” while Wired Magazine warned that Twitter’s NFT jump could backfire. The Wired article also mentioned that Facebook parent company Meta is working to integrate NFT ownership into elements of the Metaverse experience.

Elon Musk, for one, is not a fan of the new features. He reportedly criticized Twitter’s new NFT integration as “annoying.”
