World Shocked By Aftermath of Ash-Covered Tonga's Surprise Volcanic Eruption

The world is grappling with the aftermath of the surprise explosive volcanic eruption from Tonga, an island in the Pacific. An Australian surveillance flight conducted of Tonga recently showed widespread ash covering the small island nation of only about 100,000 or so full-time residents.

A cloud formed over Tonga shortly after a strong volcanic eruption occurred there, triggering tsunami advisories as far as thousands of miles from the epicenter of the eruption.

Aside from the ash, many residents were affected by a tsunami, the result of the volcanic eruption’s shockwave.

The first planes have also landed in Tonga carrying emergency supplies. It’s been about five days since the eruption occurred and scientists in New Zealand have warned similar eruptions may be ahead.

Flooding occurred in Pacifica and Santa Cruz, California after the Tonga eruption, showing how far its impact was felt by other parts of the world.
