WORLD HEALTH ORG: Wuhan Coronavirus Is Now Officially CoViD-19, And It's "Public Enemy Number One"
DEVELOPING STORY— Quite the escalation in messaging and rhetoric from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health watchdog groups in just recent hours… The WHO has officially named the novel coronavirus CoViD-19, in order to avoid any regional “stigma” over the virus and to allow international researchers to coordinate with greater precision.
According to Reuters news agency, the WHO has declared this new virus “public enemy number one,” and is committing significant resources to slowing its spread worldwide.
Also, as others have pointed out already, “coronavirus” was never a great name for this apparently new — or “novel” — virus, as coronavirus is an entire broad subcategory of viruses which also include the common cold, and SARS.
The total number of infected in mainland China by CoViD-19 has now crossed 42,000, with 1,000 deaths reported in the country so far.
As we have reported previously, China’s President Xi Jinping now wears a protective mask when touring areas of the capital city — Beijing — which are combating the disease’s spread.
Here in the USA, a federal quarantine has been initiated to keep those infected away from the healthy population. 1,000 beds have been made initially available at quarantine sites in multiple states, with capacity up to 100,000 beds possible if needed.
