BREAKING: Warning Issued For Hawaii's Big Island 10.28.2022 As Volcano Goes Active

This is breaking news, and more information will likely be added as it becomes available… Updated 4:52am Eastern 10/28/22… Hawaii’s Big Island has fallen under emergency warning from officials in the island state. From NBC minutes ago, “Hawaii officials are warning residents of the Big Island that the world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa, is sending signals that it may erupt.”

Just days ago, a fairly strong 5.1 magnitude quake rattled San Jose and the surrounding Silicon Valley area — affecting workplaces of Google, Meta Platforms, and other tech giants in the region.

Somewhat ominously, officials are noting it would be very bad if lava flow were to emerge from Mauna Loa in the hours or days ahead. “‘There’s a potential for some kind of lava disaster,’ said Talmadge Magno, the administrator for Hawaii County Civil Defense.” (source)
