6.2 Magnitude Quake Strikes Near Tonga In The Pacific Ocean - Breaking News 1.27.2022

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck about 130 miles northwest of the Pacific island nation of Tonga, which was recently the site of a devastating volcanic explosion and ensuing tsunami waves.

An early morning earthquake has struck northwest of Tonga.

Although the volcano’s activity has subsided, clearly it is still a geologically very active area.

As of early Thursday morning, Tsunami.gov (which is run by NOAA and the Weather Service) was not indicating any tsunami threats as a result of the earthquake.
