Strong 7.2 Earthquake Strikes Near Haiti, Severe Casualties Projected And Tsunami Warning Issued Earlier Saturday
Breaking 8/14/2021 — weekend earthquake initially registering as a 7.2 magnitude, or stronger than 2010’s disaster in the same area, triggered a tsunami warning early Saturday morning. Authorities in Haiti are expecting the death toll to be significant, as many structures were disrupted or destroyed during the quake.
This follows the 8.2 earthquake near Perryville, Alaska on July 29th — the strongest quake recorded anywhere in the world in more than 50 years. That one briefly triggered a tsunami warning at the time, also. And a less strong, but still significant 6.0 which struck central California, also last month.
And most curious of all: geological authorities are now revealing July saw more than 1,000 minor to moderate earthquakes in the region surrounding the Yellowstone supervolcano structure. Although the supervolcano has not erupted in 70,000 or so years, that’s relatively recent in geological terms.
This is breaking news, and more information will be added as it becomes available.
