200+ Companies Hit In Another Ransomware Attack, Probably Designed To Scapegoat Bitcoin - News 7.3.2021

A supposed ransomware attack on a single software company has expanded to at least 200 organizations that use the software, according to mainstream media reports this morning.

They just won’t let the public have their Bitcoin win.

This seems to be another nebulous attempt to sully cryptocurrency by tying it to ransomware and extortion schemes. Seems even criminals prefer rare money to uncapped fiat, but doesn’t seem that crypto has anything to do with these attacks other than being the hackers’ preferred payment method.

As FULCRUM and others helped expose earlier this year, the Colonial gas pipeline ransomware narrative turned out to be a sham - in fact, only Colonial’s billing system was hit by hackers, and Colonial itself shut down their own pipeline because they were concerned they wouldn’t be able to bill their customers manually for the fuel flowing to them during the disruption.
