LA PALMA VOLCANO UPDATES: Horrific Lava Flows Continue With 'No Signs of Stopping'

According to a report earlier today from Space.com, “New high-resolution satellite images of Spain's La Palma island reveal lava rivers spilling from the island's Cumbre Vieja volcano as its devastating eruption shows no signs of stopping nearly a month after it began.”

Worse, the increasing lava flow — which has already led to evacuations and flight closures on the Canary Island of La Palma — is stoking the flames of an appealing (if unlikely) apocalyptic conspiracy theory that La Palma will be the catalyst which sets off a horrific transatlantic super tsunami sequence of some kind, wiping out Eastern US cities including perhaps Miami, D.C., New York, and Boston.

Although University of California modeled such a scenario more than two decades ago, it is unlikely the volcanic eruption will trigger such a long-range tsunami. More likely, if it stirs up tsunami conditions at all, the ensuing wave could strike the coast of Africa or somewhere in Europe, both of which are much closer to La Palma.

A large volcano named Kilauea, on the island of Hawaii began erupting about two weeks ago for the first time since May of this year, causing some to conclude we are experiencing a period of high seismic activity around the world.
