Very Strong 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Antarctica's Coast 1.23.2021

Developing story — earlier this evening, off the coast of Antarctica near the Chilean Antarctic research base, a freakishly strong 7.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded.

Magnitude of an earthquake is recorded along a logarithmic, rather than linear scale, so a 7.0 quake is very strong compared to lesser rated quakes.

As FULCRUM researchers have pointed out, it is troubling that the 7.0 Antarctica quake mirrors in many respects — including magnitude — a Thursday 7.0 quake recorded in the southern Philippines. That earlier quake could have triggered a tsunami according to experts, but did not.

2021: getting weird already.
