With Weeks To Go Before US Election, Both Campaigns Losing Some Steam - News Updates 10.18.2020
This is not a normal election year, in many respects: more than 17 million mail-in ballots have been reportedly cast nationwide, due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. In normal circumstances, presumably far less mail-in ballots would have been cast, giving the candidates longer to reach undecideds and unaffiliated voters in the middle of the political spectrum.
Instead, many minds have already been made up, so the appeals of the Biden and Trump campaigns may be falling on deaf ears to some extent, even among their respective political bases of support.
Joe Biden’s campaign messaging appears somewhat weakened in the final weeks and days ‘til November 3rd by the leak of his son’s embarrassing emails found on a laptop.
And the traditional Trump platform appeals of economic strength and security are, to an extent, falling on deaf ears in the heartland — where millions of jobs have been lost and many businesses have shutdown, due to the pandemic.
The death toll from COVID-19 exposure in the United States sits above 215,000 currently, or roughly 70 times the number of American lives lost from the terror attacks of 9/11/2001.
