Bitcoin is meritocratic, global money based on a "proof-of-work" algorithm. There are no counterfeit Bitcoins in existence, and the supply of Bitcoin is strictly capped at an eventual 21 million coins. As of posting this, there are 16,223,150 Bitcoins in existence. Bitcoin is often abbreviated to BTC.
